Reports from the Field – Extreme Ultimate Warriors

Ryan Griffis Manager, Global Partner Programs Published 20 Nov 2020

Extreme isn’t shy about celebrating the achievements of our top partners. The Extreme Ultimate Warrior Program recognizes our Gold and Diamond partners by rewarding them with an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime trip for achieving specific sales objectives. In recent years, our Ultimate Warrior winners have marveled at the magnificence of Iceland and experienced the incredible Maasai Mara wildlife reserve in Kenya. In 2021, they’ll get to experience the pristine beaches, clear waters, and exotic culture of Costa Rica.

Who can qualify as an Extreme Ultimate Warrior? This year, these professionals within partner firms have achieved the Extreme WirelessCloud Specialization and demonstrated broad expertise in delivering the newest solutions to customers. They’re successful and inspirational people and we want to share their thoughts and success stories with you.

Get ready for our new blog series, “Reports from the Field – Extreme Ultimate Warriors.” These top sales personnel will share insights on what being an Ultimate Warrior means to them and to their customers.

First up, meet Extreme Ultimate Warrior Michael Stettner of Germany’s CMS IT-Consulting GmbH

Please tell us what it means to you that CMS has been awarded Ultimate Warrior status.

This is the third year in a row that we have achieved Ultimate Warrior status. It shows how enormously important the partnership with Extreme is to us and we invest a lot in it. It is very nice to see that this effort is also recognized by Extreme.

How does Ultimate Warrior status reflect CMS’s ability to deliver Extreme solutions to customers?

We know that our core value proposition is the qualifications and skills of our network engineers. This is why we heavily invest in training and certification. This strategy helped us to become one of Extreme’s leading partners in Germany and one of the few with four master certifications. This edge in skill and expertise enables us to sell, install, maintain, and operate all of the Extreme Networks solutions. The timely achievement of the Ultimate Warrior status in 2020 also shows that CMS always dares to approach new solutions very quickly and also sells them successfully.

In addition to being an Ultimate Warrior, CMS is a Black Diamond partner, our elite partner group.  Why do you think the partnership between CMS and Extreme is so strong?

It is always one of our goals to be among the best. CMS has been part of the Black Diamond program since its inception. Because of our passion for technology, we take part in all specializations that Extreme offers. CMS is always one of the first to come up with new products and solutions and we have also been involved in beta programs for years. Close contact with Extreme’s product team is very important to us because new products and technologies can be improved by our hands-on experiences in the field.

What trends do you see emerging in enterprise networking and how is CMS moving to take advantage of these opportunities?

We see that many IT departments are getting smaller and smaller, but at the same time, the demands on them are growing steadily. As a result, the need for managed services is growing. We also see that wireless networking is becoming more and more important, especially in the public sector. We believe that these customers will benefit from Extreme’s new cloud-managed solutions, which also plays into our hands since we implement our new managed services model with these customers.

You started at CMS 17 years ago as a network consultant and you’re now the Managing Director.  What do you most enjoy about your role?

My 17 years at CMS have been very exciting. The requirements and responsibility have grown steadily and I have been able to observe many trends in the network market over the years. It was always important to me to continue to understand the technology and to be able to present credible solutions to our customers. In the meantime, as managing director of one of Extreme’s highest volume German partners ─ with almost 60 employees and around 40 of the network engineers ─ it is very exciting to develop leading-edge network solutions and to realize new market opportunities in cooperation with Extreme.

Have you visited Costa Rica before?  What are you most looking forward to about the trip?

This will be my first trip to Costa Rica and I’m really looking forward to it. I am also looking forward to seeing familiar faces again after such a long time but also to make new contacts and have interesting conversations in a completely different environment than usual.
